During the period 1920-30, the Scottish Missionaries arrived here and sowed the seed of the Gospel in Thiruporur village. In the year 1945 Rev. E.O. Shaw was shepherding the congregation in a small church near the Fish Market. Then in 1974 the worship centre was shifted to the present site.

As the size of the congregation grew more and more, the present Church was built with the generous contribution of the congregation of St. George's Cathedral, Chennai. The foundation stone was laid by Bishop Sunder Clark in 1988 and the Church was dedicated to the Glory Of God by Bishop M. Azariah on 2nd December 1990. Now after 27 years, the congregation has grown from 100 members to 300 at present.

Thiruporur Township is situated at the southern border of Chennai city on Old Mamallapuram Road (OMR). OMR is rapidly developing neighbourhood and so many Educational Institutions - Medical Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Universities etc - and several industries and IT Companies came to existence in and around Thiruporur. To cater to the residential need of the institutions and companies, many residential places including multi story buildings and gated communities are developed in Thiruporur Township. As a result more new Christians who started living here are coming to our Church for worship. So we are compelled to build a bigger Church to accommodate our existing members as well as new ones.

St. George’s Church, Thiruporur is situated in the heart of Thiruporur just opposite to the Bus Stand. The Church is the Head quarter of the Pastorate. The Pastorate consists of 16 villages. The church has various activities like Sunday School, Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, Youth Fellowship, Women's Fellowship, Men's Fellowship, Family Prayer Meetings and more. Believers in Christ are most welcome...
